PETITION COMMITTEE COUNTERS NYATIKE SQUATTERS CLAIM.

The National Assembly Select Committee on Public Petitions met today to consider a petition by Hon. Tom Odege (Nyatike).

During the session chaired by Hon. Ernest Kagesi (Vihiga), the petitioners presented their concerns regarding the delayed adjudication and settlement of squatters following the expiration of the lease of Macalder Mines Ltd. land in Nyatike.

Members inquired why the squatters should receive the land, considering they are not the rightful owners of the property.

MEMBERS RAISE CONCERNS KN THE FUTURE OF FUEL PRICES

Members of the National Assembly Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy have raised concerns about the future of local fuel prices, ahead of the monthly review of the prices by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on March 14.

The concerns were raised by the Hon. David Pkosing -led Committee during a meeting convened to examine the Authority's audited accounts between FY 2016/17 to 2020/2021. 

KENYA SEED COMPANY REQUESTS FOR MORE LAND TO PLANT SEEDS

The Kenya Seed Company through its Managing Director, Mr. Fred Oloibe has requested for an additional 8000 hectares of land to enhance seed production.

This follows an inspection visit by the National Assembly Committee on Agriculture & Livestock chaired by Dr. John Mutunga.

The legislators accompanied by the Kenya Seed Company Limited MD, Mr. Fred Oloibe toured the facilities and farms in Trans-Nzoia County as part of the Committee's mandate in budget implementation oversight.

PICCAE CALLS FOR CONTRACT TENDER DOCUMENTS AND A COPY OF LPG CONTRACT

The National Assembly Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy has today directed the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to present documents relating to the issuance of a contract to a service provider for the provision of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) compliance inspection services in March 2019.

The Committee Chaired by Hon. David Pkosing issued this directive after Members raised concerns that the Authority's responses in relation to the contract were underwhelming.

SPEAKER WETANG’ULA LAUDS KEWOPA’S PUSH FOR THE REALIZATION OF GENDER EQUALITY

National Assembly is keen on working with the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) to uplift female Parliamentarians and budding women in leadership, the National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula has said.

In a meeting with the recently elected KEWOPA Executive, Speaker Wetang’ula commended the caucus's efforts in pushing for gender equality in Parliament. He lauded KEWOPA for playing a significant role in pushing for the enactment of laws and policies that promote gender equality and women empowerment in Kenya.
