The Leader of the Majority Party

Hon (Dr.) Amos Kimunya, EGH, MP, is Leader of Majority Party in the National Assembly. He is the second Member of Parliament to hold the position since its establishment under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. He was elected into the Office on July 22, 2020.

Article 108(4) of the Constitution of Kenya establishes the precedence to be observed in the National Assembly which ranks the Leader of Majority Party as second in precedence after the Speaker. 

The office is charged with scheduling legislation for consideration by the House; in addition to, marshalling of Majority Party/ Government legislative priorities in the House. 

Hon. Kimunya is the current Member of Parliament for Kipipiri Constituency. He is serving a third term having been first elected in 2002, and re-elected in 2007 and 2017.

He serves as Chairperson of the Committee on Selection as well as a member of the Committee on Appointments and of the House Business Committee.

Between 2003-2013, he served in the Cabinet, in various dockets: Minister of Transport 2010 – 2013; Minister of Trade 2008 – 2010; Minister of Finance from 2006 to July 2008; Minister of Lands and Settlement (2003 – 2006); and Minister for Housing 2004 – 2005. 

He holds a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration (DBA)Finance and a Global Executive Masters of Business Administration (GEMBA) (and was recognized as the top student in both) from the United States International University- Africa. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting option) from the University of Nairobi. He is a Fellow Certified Public Accountant (FCPA,K) and a Fellow Certified Public Secretary (FCPS, K). He previously served as the Chairperson of ICPAK which is the national body of Certified Public Accountants. 

He is married and enjoys reading and playing golf.
