The National Assembly Majority Whip

Hon. Benjamin Washiali, CBS, MP, is the Majority Whip in the National Assembly and also serves as the Member for Mumias East Constituency. Born in October 1961, Hon. Washiali is married and a devoted Christian.

Hon. Washiali attended Maraba Primary School and Lubinu Secondary School before undertaking his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (K.A.C.E.) at Naitiri High School. He thereafter a Diploma in Export Practice & International Marketing from the Kenya School of Exports & Imports. Hon. Washiali also holds Bachelor Degree on Business Administration at the University Empresarial de Costa Rica.

Hon. Washiali has had a distinguished career life that includes serving as the Logistics Officer at Uplands Bacon Factory, Logistics Officer at the National Cereals & Produce Board, Manager at Logistics Freight Ltd, and Managing Director of Sea-Sky Express Ltd.

Hon. Washiali was first elected to Parliament in 2007 as Member for Mumias Constituency, whereupon he also served as the Deputy Whip in the Majority Coalition in the 10th Parliament. He was re-elected in 2013 to represent Mumias East Constituency and further served as the first Deputy Whip of the Majority Party in the National Assembly under the new Constitution. Hon. Washiali secured a third consecutive term in Parliament in 2017, and additionally serves as the Majority Whip in the 12th Parliament.

Hon. Washiali has been an active member of several Parliamentary Committees including House Broadcasting Committee, Lands & Natural Resources Committee, Agriculture, Livestock & Cooperatives, Committee on Appointments, Committee on Selection, Environment and Natural Resources Committee and the House Business Committee.

Awards, honours and recognitions obtained by Hon. Washiali include the Chief of the Burning Spear (CBS) conferred to him by H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta, CGH. He has further received appreciation from the Amateur Boxing Association and has actively participated in the Western Education Advocacy & Empowerment Programme, Kenya (Opportunities for Children in Western Kenya (OCWK) Project).
