Busia County MP, Hon. Catherine Omanyo has sought a Statement on harassment of Kenyan fishermen on Lake Victoria.

Hon. Omanyo highlighted the plight of fishermen in Budalangi, who have faced frequent arrests, detention, and extortion by Ugandan security forces.

"Lake Victoria is a shared resource that supports millions of livelihoods, yet our fishermen are being treated as criminals in their own waters. The Ugandan authorities' actions violate the rights and dignity of our people and this must stop," she said.

The Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife, chaired by Maara Constituency MP Hon. Kareke Mbiuki, convened a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Wildlife Research and Training Institute, Dr. Patrick Omondi, Acting CEO of the Tourism Fund, Mr. David Mwangi and the CEO of the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC), Mr. James Mwaura.

The committee underscored the need for innovation, strategic action and accountability to ensure these vital sectors thrive.

Members of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee have asked Kenyans to jealously guard the kitty, to ensure sustained grassroots development in the wake of recent debate on its legality.

Led by Chairperson, Hon. Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine) the MPs who were speaking during insurance of NG-CDF bursaries to needy learners in Dagoretti-North Constituency noted that the Fund had assisted many poor households pay school fees in addition to upgrading critical learning infrastructure across the country.

The National Assembly is set to consider a Bill seeking to allow taxpayers who were locked out of the programme upon its expiry on June 30, 2024 to benefit from the amnesty is set to be introduced in the House for consideration.

 The Bill will be Read for the First Time when the House resumes from its long recess in the second week of September.

 The Tax Procedures (Amendment) Bill, 2024 which was published on August 20, 2024 and seeks to extend the programme to June 2025 was submitted by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning.
