Joint Committees may be established by the Standing Orders or by a Resolution of both Houses of Parliament or by or under any law. The Committees comprise a number of Senators equal to the number of Members of the National Assembly. The Standing Orders establish the following Joint Committees-

Joint Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity which is mandated to-

• monitor and promote measures relating to policy and program initiatives in pursuit of the peace and national cohesion;
• investigate, inquire into and report on all matters relating to inter community cohesion;
• monitor and promote measures designed to enhance the equalization of opportunities and improvement in the quality of life and status of all persons including groups who are marginalized persons on the basis of gender, age, disability, health status, ethnic, racial, cultural or religious background or affiliation or any other such ground;
• investigate, inquire into and report on all matters relating to discrimination and or marginalisation; and,
• examine the activities and administration of all Ministries, departments and statutory bodies in so far as they relate to the rights and welfare of the groups referred to under paragraph (c).

Joint Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library Committee which is mandated to-

• considers and report on all matters relating to broadcasting of Parliamentary proceedings;
• advises the Houses of parliament on matters related to public participation;
• Makes reports and recommendations to the Houses of Parliament on including proposed legislation on all matters relating to broadcasting of parliamentary proceedings and matters related thereto;
• Recommends to and advises the Houses of parliament on matters pertaining to the provision of library, publications and research service in Parliament; and
• assists Members of Parliament in utilising the facilities provided by library and research services including information and communications technology.
