County Legislation Tracker Follow-up Visits: A Milestone for Transparency and Accountability in Kenya
The Senate, through the Senate Liaison Office, in partnership with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), recently concluded a series of follow-up visits to ten County Assemblies including; Kisumu, Nyamira, Kisii, Vihiga, Kakamega, Migori, Homa Bay, Bungoma, Busia and Siaya between the 23rd and 27th of September, 2024.
These visits aimed to support the continued use and enhancement of the County Legislation Tracker (CLT) system, launched in October 2023 last year to streamline legislative processes and promote transparency across all 47 counties.
The CLT system offers a centralized platform for tracking Bills and Acts across 47 County Assemblies, allowing the public to monitor legislative developments. The follow-up visits focused on addressing technical challenges, promoting best practices, and gathering recommendations from counties on improving the system.
The follow-up visits underscored the importance of ongoing capacity building, system improvements, and stronger internal coordination among County Assemblies.
Future engagements will focus on expanding the system’s functionality and incorporating public feedback mechanisms.
By addressing these challenges, and fostering continuous engagement, the CLT system is set to enhance governance and accountability across counties, bringing the legislative process closer to the people and promoting a devolution course.
