Members of the National Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang'ula, are set to convene next week for the National Assembly Members' Retreat, which will be held from Monday, January 27, 2025 to Friday, January 31, 2025 in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The retreat themed "๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ ๐˜‰๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด: ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ณ ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต", will see lawmakers deliberate on the legislative agenda for the fourth session of the thirteenth Parliament that is set to begin in February 2025.ย 

Legislators' will delve into the proposed amendments to the Constitution to safeguard the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), the Senate Oversight Fund, and the National Government Affirmative Action Fund. MPsย will haveย an opportunityย to deliberate onย a roadmap for the consideration of the proposals to ensure conclusion.

During the retreat, lawmakers' will take stock of the progress made by the National Assembly during the First, Second and Third Sessions; share experiences and challenges faced and chart the way forward; and consider the proposed legislative agenda of the House, key Bills and business expected during the Fourth Session.

Members will also review various critical lawsย that have been passed by the House, underย Universal Health Care -ย the Social Health Act and the Digital Health Act; as well as the finance related lawsย including the Business Laws (Amendment) Act and the Tax Procedures (Amendment) Act.

The National Treasury Principal Secretaryย is expected to engage MPs on matters relating to the economy including the current state of economic affairs in the country in view of the increasing budgetary needs and the acute demand for service delivery by the public.

Legislators' will also prioritize health matters, the Chairperson of the Social Health Authority (SHA) will provide an update on the rollout, operationalization of frameworks and status of implementation for the Universal Health Care, challenges being faced and the remedial measures being taken.

Other stakeholders invited to the retreat include the Secretary/Director of Pensions in the National Treasury Mr. Alfred M. Kagika; ย Dr. Dan Gikonyo; former Member for Kipkelion East Hon. Joseph Limo; and former Nominated Member Hon. (Prof.) Jacqueline Oduol.

The meeting shall also review the performance of Kenya in the EAC Inter- Parliamentary Games, with the 14th Edition having beenย hosted by Parliament of Kenya from 7th to 18th December 2024 in Mombasa County, with a focus as an avenue of enhancing EAC integration.

The retreat will bring together the Presidium, leadership of the House, the House Business Committee, Chairpersons of Committees of the House, and all Members of the National Assembly.
