The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech has seven days within which to table a report detailing the suitability of Mr. Noordin Haji for appointment to the position of  Director General, National Intelligence Service (NIS). 

During the approval hearing, Members interrogated the nominee on his academic and professional competence for the job, and also delved into questions regarding his previous performance record in Public Service.

Among the questions raised by Members were in relation to Mr.  Haji's record in his immediate former portfolio as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), as well as his performance in the intelligence circles, particularly during his tenure as Deputy Director of NIS in charge of counter-organized crime.

Members also wanted to know Mr. Haji’s strategic plan to rejuvenate the Service, and how he intends to revamp the intel-driven war against modern organized multinational crime and tax evasion.

Hon. Koech said the Committee would be guided by the law and would fairly consider all the questions raised to the Nominee and his corresponding responses before making a final determination on his suitability.

“This is a very professional, competent, and fair team. Upon retreat we will fairly consider all matters and arrive at a final position which we will communicate to the House,” said Hon. Koech.

After the Committee's tabling of the report on Haji's suitability, the National Assembly will have a further seven days within which to approve or reject his nomination for appointment to the job.
