COMMITTEE REVIEWS DEFENCE MINISTRY 2021/2022 ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT

The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee has this morning reviewed the Ministry of Defence's 2021/2022  Annual Performance Report.

The Committee Chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech (Belgut) undertook this assignment in line with Article 153 (4) (b) of the Constitution and Section 10 (h) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act no. 25 of 2012.

During the meeting, the Committee raised concern with the Performance Report as transmitted to Parliament by the Ministry. It noted that the Report had not met the requisite threshold, and resolved to file a request for more details.

"In line with Section 10 (h) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act, we shall write to the Ministry requesting for a more detailed Report, including itemized statements showing the utilization, savings of public funds and eliminations of unnecessary duplications," said Hon. Koech.

Members said this information was critical to enable them fully scrutinize the Ministry's utilization of the allocated funds during the financial year under review.

Committee Members present during the meeting were Hon. Martha Wangari (Gilgil), Hon. Mohammed Abdikadir (Lagdera), Hon. Caleb Amisi (Saboti), Hon. Joshua Kandie (Baringo Central) and Hon. Moses Kirima (Central Imenti).
