The Senate is set to hold a special sitting this Monday June 26, 2023.

Through a gazette notice dated June 22 2023, Speaker of the Senate Rt Hon. Amason Jeffah Kingi EGH appointed Monday June 26 as a day for a special sitting of the Senate for the Lawmakers to consider the report of a special committee on the proposed removal from office by impeachment of the Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol.

The Ad Hoc Committee, led by Senator Shakila Abdalla, which is tasked with investigating the proliferation of Religious Organizations and the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths in Shakahola, made a significant move by visiting Kisumu County. The committee's objective was to engage with various stakeholders, including the County Security and Intelligence Committee, families of the victims, local religious leaders, and non-governmental organizations, in order to gather vital information and insights related to the ongoing investigation.

The County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee, chaired by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, convened today to discuss the Auditor General's reports on the financial statements of Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited for the fiscal years 2018/19, 2019/20, and 2020/21 with Mombasa County Governor Abdullswamad Nassir.

Kitui County Senator Enoch Wambua is seeking for a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Education on the delayed payment of salaries to staff and pending bills owed to suppliers and contractors at Kitui Teachers Training College.

 In his request, the Senator wants the committee to establish the cause of delay in payment of salaries to staff of Kitui Teachers Training College for the last ten months, stating the total amount owed by the institution in terms of salary arrears and plans in place, if any, to ensure the teachers are paid without any further delays.

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning undertook an approval hearing for the nominee for the position of Chairperson, the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) ,CPA Mary Wanyonyi.

During the hearing, Members pointed out that given the shrinking revenues collected by the National Government for sharing between the two levels of government, counties need to intensify their efforts for their own revenue collection to support their programmes.
