The Senate is set to hold a special sitting this Monday June 26, 2023.

Through a gazette notice dated June 22 2023, Speaker of the Senate Rt Hon. Amason Jeffah Kingi EGH appointed Monday June 26 as a day for a special sitting of the Senate for the Lawmakers to consider the report of a special committee on the proposed removal from office by impeachment of the Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol.

β€œPursuant to standing order 33 (1) of the Senate Standing Orders, on the request of the Senate Majority Leader and with the support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Monday, 26th June, 2023, as a day for a special sitting of the Senate,” read the notice by Speaker Kingi.

β€œThe sitting shall be held in the Senate Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings, Ground Floor, Nairobi, commencing at 2.30 pm and the business to be transacted at the sitting shall be the consideration of the Report of the Special Committee on the Proposed Removal from Office, by impeachment, of the Deputy Governor of Siaya County,” explained Hon. Kingi.

The Senate Special Committee on the proposed removal from office by impeachment of the Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol concluded its hearings on Thursday and retreated to write a report that will be tabled in the House during the special sitting.

The County Assembly and the Deputy Governor of Siaya County submitted their evidence on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 respectively.

Members of the Special Committee are Sen. William Kisang of Elgeyo Marakwet County (Chairperson), Sen. Betty Batuli Montet (Vice Chairperson), Sen. Abass Mohamed of Wajir County, Sen. Mwenda Gataya Mo Fire of Tharaka Nithi County, Sen. Tabitha Mutinda, Sen. Raphael Chimera Mwinzagu, Sen. Miraj Abdullahi Abdulrahman, Nyamira County Senator Erick Okong’o Omogeni, SC, Sen. Catherine Mumma, Sen. Daniel Maanzo of Makueni County and Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka.
