Kitui County Senator Enoch Wambua is seeking for a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Education on the delayed payment of salaries to staff and pending bills owed to suppliers and contractors at Kitui Teachers Training College.
Β In his request, the Senator wants the committee to establish the cause of delay in payment of salaries to staff of Kitui Teachers Training College for the last ten months, stating the total amount owed by the institution in terms of salary arrears and plans in place, if any, to ensure the teachers are paid without any further delays.
In addition, the senator wants the committee to state the reason for delay in release of payment to suppliers and contractors since 2018, outlining the total amount owed in terms of pending bills and plans in place, if any, to ensure the bills are paid, stating timeliness if any and state reasons for the low enrollment of students at the institution currently standing at only 50 against a capacity of 1200 students, indicating the steps the Ministry of Education intends to take to stop an imminent closure of the institution.
