PETITIONS COMMITTEE CONSIDERS THE DE-GAZZETTMENT OF HOLA IRRIGATION SCHEME

The National Assembly Select Committee on Public Petitions chaired by Hon. Nimrod Mbati (Kitui East) has embarked on a fact-finding mission to Tana River in regard to a petition presented by Hon. Said Buya (Galole) on behalf of Tana River residents.

The Committee met with the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Management, County Government officials, Members of the County Assembly (MCA’s), and representatives of the farmers.

The petitioners' prayer is the de-gazettement and relocation of 2,000 acres of land from the expansive 12,630-acre Hola Irrigation Scheme. This, they say, is to facilitate the expansion of Hola town, which serves as the administrative center of Tana River County.

Hon. Mbai, told the Deputy General Manager of NIA Tana River, Mr. Daniel Atula, to consider the issue and also allocate the farmers unused land that is devoid of any disputes.
