Parliament resumes after long recess

Parliament has resumed this afternoon with both Houses sitting after the long recess that started on December 6, 2018. Both Houses had only one agenda on the Order paper. In the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale moved a motion seeking to add seven new members into the House Business Committee that is charged with formulating business for the House. He was seconded by Minority Leader John Mbadi. The seven are in addition to those designated as members of the committee by virtue of their leadership positions in the House.

The new proposed members include Honourables Amos Kimunya, Joyce Emanikor, Shadradck John Mose, Kawira Mwangaza, Dr Makali Mulu, Mishi Mboko and Godfrey Otsosi. And in the Senate, Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen sought the approval of the Senate to also add seen new members to the Senate Business Committee.He was seconded by Minority Leader James Orengo. They include Senators Fatuma Dullo, Cleophas Malala, Beatrice Kwamboka, Paul Githiomi Mwangi, Eng, Mohammed Mahamud, Dr Christopher Langat and Ledama Ole Kina.

The two Houses approved the names of the two committees which then retreated to formulate business for the respective Houses commencing tomorrow Wednesday February 13, 2019. Earlier National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi chaired a meeting of key heads of departments and directors managing House business.
