Several legislators have bagged awards at the Annual National SDGs Multi-Stakeholders Conference which came to a close this evening.

The Conference was aimed at discussing actionable strategies for accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The forum themed, โ€˜Solutions to Leapfrog SDGs Implementation in the last Stretch to 2030โ€™ was organized by the State Department for Economic Planning in collaboration with the SDGs Inter-Agency Technical Working Sub-Committee.

It brought together 150 key stakeholders, including representatives from National and County Governments, the Parliamentary Caucus on SDGs and Business, UN agencies, SDGs Kenya Forum, Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), Media Council of Kenya, Council of Governors Civil Society Organizations and youth organizations. Delegates from Finland and Uganda were also in attendance.

ย Addressing the Conference during the official opening on Monday, the Hon. (Dr.) Gideon Ochanda who is also the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Caucus on SDGs and Business emphasized the importance of the SDGs as a framework for global sustainable development, focusing on the interconnected nature of the goals and the urgent need for collective action.

He outlined Kenya's progress in several areas, including access to energy and gender representation, while also acknowledging ongoing challenges such as poor healthcare, poverty, unemployment, and climate change.

Hon. Ochanda also called for increased investment in infrastructure and social services to ensure that Kenya meets its 2030 targets.

ย In his part, Hon. Clive Ombane highlighted the need for digital transformation, community engagement, and collaboration among all stakeholders to drive inclusive progress.

He underscored the critical role of technology and local initiatives in achieving sustainable development.

ย The highlight of the event was today's Gala Dinner which saw a number of stakeholders including four Members of Parliament presented with awards in recognition of their significant contributions in advancing the SDG agenda.

MPs honoured during the award ceremony include: the Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, MP for Kiharu Constituency for his role in transforming the education sector in his constituency; the Hon. Catherine Wambilianga (Bungoma) for her fight against gender based violence and early marriages, the Hon. Amina Udgoon (Garissa) for the Udgoon Sustainable Development Initiative; and Hon. Clive Ombane (Kitutu Masaba) for his significant contribution towards the improvement of the quality of education for his constituents.

Also present at the Gala Dinner was the Hon. Aden Daud, MP.
