On Tuesday, the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security jointly with the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations held a pre-vetting meeting ahead of the Approval Hearing scheduled for Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Mini Chamber, County Hall.

The meeting, co-chaired by Sen. William Cheptumo (Baringo County) and Gabriel Tongoyo (Narok West constituency), established the rules for the vetting process as outlined by the Constitution and other relevant laws.

President William Ruto nominated Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho for the position of Inspector-General of the National Police Service and his name was forwarded to Parliament for approval.

The approval process will be conducted jointly by the Senate Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations, along with the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security.

The Joint Committee is expected to vet the nominee and submit a report to both Houses of Parliament either approving or rejecting the nomination by August 20, 2024.
