The senate committee on labour and social welfare today held a meeting with petitioners and the director of First choice recruitment agency who had been summoned to give an update on whether they have reimbursed the more than 500 youths whose money had been allegedly obtained to facilitate them with jobs and studies placement abroad before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The petitioners had prayed to the Senate to intervene in the matter with a view to recommending that the youth and their families be reimbursed their money by the agency, the perpetrators be brought to book and that necessary precautions be put in place to ensure that such agencies are properly vetted before they are allowed to transact business.

The committee had asked the management of the company to table a list of all the refunds paid with their names, identification number, signature and amounts paid but it turned out that most petitioners had not received any money from the agency. However, the representative of first choice were kicked out having failed to retract, withdraw and apologize for accusing the committee of biases. The committee will retreat to write a report that will be tabled on their decision concerning the petition.

Members present were Chair Sen. Julius Murgor, Sen.George Mbugua, Sen. Rt justice Stewart Madzayo, Sen. Sen. Alexander Mundigi, and Sen.Samson Cherarkey
