The National Assembly may soon have to extend its sitting hours to clear the backlog of Private Members Bills.
TheΒ National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang'ula told the House thatΒ one suggestion for theΒ House to enable it clear pending business is to sit for longer sittingΒ hours and the likelihood of introduction of Thursday morning sittings.
"To all Members with queuing business at the Table Office and in the House be available on short notice to prosecute your business," said Hon. Wetang'ula.
He noted that the backlog had been occasioned by increased interest among legislators to pursue Private Members Bills to deal with diverse issues of interest to the electorate.Β
Ordinarily Private Members Bills are transacted on Wednesday Morning sittings.
