The National Assembly’s Select Committee on Public Petitions chaired by Vice Chair Hon. Janet Siteinei (Turbo) considered a petition by Hon. Owen Baya on behalf of residents of Kilifi. The petition is in regard to the protracted adjudication and resolution of the Mnarani Sub-location.Β

In his prayers, Hon. Baya asked the Committee to undertake thorough investigations into the rightful ownership of the Mnarani Land.Β

The Mnarani property features an individual who in an effort to foster local development, allowed the locals to occupy it, provided they paid rent. However,Β  the residents embarked on construction and investment without acquiring official documentation of land ownership. Consequently, they find themselves possessing valuable investments but as squatters.

The petitioner informed the Committee that during the 12th Parliament, funds were allocated for compensating landowners who were willing to sell their properties to the Government. This move was made in an effort to avert the demolition of structures, schools, and other vital facilities on the land.
