Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangβwa has today sought a statement from the Senate Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources regarding the delay in compensation to the residents of Ndeiya, Limuru Constituency in Kiambu County due to the Governmentβs compulsory acquisition of private land.
While requesting the statement in the Senate Chamber, Senator Thangβwa asked the Committee to elucidate on the reasons behind the delay in expediting the pending compensation for the land impacted by Phase 2A of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project, while taking into account the roles played by Kenya Railways and the National Land Commission.
The Legislator also requested the Lands Committee to disclose the plans and projected timelines that the National Land Commission and Kenya Railways have formulated to ensure the timely payment of affected individuals involved in the SGR project.
In conclusion, the Kiambu Senator asked the Senator Methu-led Committee to provide a comprehensive explanation regarding the rationale behind conducting transportation activities on private properties without acquiring legal possession, thereby continuing to trespass on the land in question.
