The National Assembly's Select Committee on National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) chaired by Hon. Musa Sirma has lauded the deployment of a digital system for the distribution of bursaries in Uriri Constituency. 

Hon. Sirma said the use of the online system will not only provide faster accessibility to bursary services by needy students but also offer transparency and accountability in the use of Government resources.

“The digital route will eradicate corruption in the distribution of the NG-CDF funds and enable access to services by students many of whom live in rural areas of the constituency," said Hon. Sirma. 

The NG-CDF Committee inspected the Uriri Technical Training Institute (TTI), Rapogi Mixed Primary School, a laboratory at Nyamasaria Secondary School, and the Kajulu Sub-Chief offices in West Kanyamkago ward.

Present during the tour were officials of the NG-CDF Board led by Mr. George Olemeshuko, Director of Human Resources. 

Mr. Olemeshuko told the Committee that the construction and equipping of the Uriri Technical Training Institute, where over 1,200 students have been admitted, is an indicator that the development funds under the Constituency had been spent well with a view to impart students with relevant skills for the job market.

“It is the agenda of the National Government to ensure our children are equipped with relevant skills in technical areas. We are happy that Hon. Nyamita has shaped this agenda by constructing a technical school,” said Mr. Olemeshuko.

Making her remarks, Hon. Beatrice Elachi pleaded with the National Government to offer scholarships to students in TTIs as a way of complimenting the insufficient NG-CDF bursary funds in order to educate more students.

“We want to request the National Government that when a huge number of students enroll in TTI as we have in Uriri, it would be good to offer them scholarships to complement the funds from the constituency kitty,” said Hon. Elachi.

The area Member of Parliament Hon. Mark Nyamita, who hosted the team, asked the Committee to hasten work on a Bill that seeks to increase the allocation of the NG – CDF fund from two point five percent to five percent.
