HON SENATOR JOYCE KORIR ELECTED VICE- CHAIRPERSON OF PSC
At its First Sitting held today, 16th November, 2022, the Parliamentary Service Commission elected Hon. Sen. Joyce Korir, MP as the Vice Chairperson of the Commission.
Article 250(10) of the Constitution provides that Members of the Commission shall elect a vice-chairperson at its first sitting. Further, Article 250(11) requires that the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Commission shall be of the opposite gender.
According to Article 127(2) of the Constitution, the composition of the Parliamentary Service Commission is as follows-
(a) the Speaker of the National Assembly as Chairperson;
(b) a Vice Chairperson elected by the Commission from the members appointed under paragraph (c);
(c) seven Members appointed by Parliament from among its members of whom: -
(i) four shall be nominated equally from both Houses by the party or coalition of parties forming the national government, of whom at least two shall be women; and
(ii) three shall be nominated by the parties not forming the national government, at least one of whom shall be nominated from each House and at least one of whom shall be a woman
one man and one woman appointed by Parliament from among persons who are experienced in public affairs but are not Members of Parliament.
Pursuant to Article 127(2)(c) of the Constitution, on 10th November, 2022, the following seven (7) Members of Parliament were appointed and sworn into office as Members of the 6th Commission -
(i) Hon. King’ola Patrick Makau, EB, MP;
(ii) Hon. Mishi Juma Khamisi Mboko, MP;
(iii) Hon. Faith Wairimu Gitau, MP;
(iv) Hon. Sen. Joyce Korir, MP;
(v) Hon. Sen. Eric Okong’o Mogeni, SC, MP;
(vi) Hon. Mohamed Ali Mohamed, HSC MP; and
(vii) Hon. Sen. John Kinyua Nderitu, MP.
