JOINT-PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE CONDUCTS VETTING & APPROVAL HEARINGS FOR DEPUTY CBK GOVERNOR NOMINEE

A Joint-Committee of the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Finance, and the Senate Standing Committee of Finance and Budget this morning conducted vetting and approval hearings for the Nominee for appointment to the office of the Deputy Governor of Central Bank, Dr. Susan Koech.

Taking to the hot seat, Dr. Koech expressed her readiness to take up the position before the Joint Committee co-chaired by Molo MP Kuria Kimani and Mandera Senator Ali Roba.

She cited her vast experience in the money sector and her great global networks as some of the crucial assets that she would deploy to help steer economic growth.

Additional, she spelt out some measures which according to her, would help revive and strengthen the country’s economy.

“We need to ensure there is a vibrant interbank forex market and in addition, ensure we diversify exports so that we increase exports while at the same time reducing imports especially food items,” explained Dr. Koech.

“Banking is my DNA and if this Committee approves me, I will be happy to do what I started sometimes back,” she added

Further, the nominee told the Committee that there is a need to support and strengthen the Public-Private Partnership arguing that it is one of the key routes to economic empowerment and creation of jobs.

Committee members in attendance were Vice Chairpersons of the two committees Amb. Benjamin Langat and Sen.Tabitha Mutinda, MPs Hon. Dr. Adan Keynan, Hon. CPA. Joseph Oyula, Hon. CPA Julius Rutto, Hon. Dr. John Ariko, Hon. Andrew Odipo, Hon. Joseph Kamau, Hon. Umul Ker Kassim, Hon. David Mboni, Hon. Joseph Makilap, Hon. Paul Biego, Hon. Mohamed Soud Machele and Senators Dr. Bonnie Khalwale, Shakila Abdala, Eddy Oketch, Joyce Korir and Tabitha Karanja.

The Joint-Committee will retreat to prepare a report to either approve or reject the nominee, and thereafter the report will be tabled in both Houses for consideration.
