CIOC ASKS LANDS COMMISSION TO PREPARE BETTER BEFORE APPEARING BEFORE THE COMMITTEE

Members of the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee (CIOC) have expressed their concern with National Lands Commission (NLC) Chairperson Mr. Gershom Otachi, who they said appeared before the Committee unprepared.

The Committee Chair, Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, termed the documents tabled before them as shallow, simplistic, and brief. The Commission was appearing before the Committee to present a detailed report on the extent of Constitutional implementation, any impediments to the process of implementing the Constitution, and the way forward.

Members were particularly intrigued by the operations of the Commission and wanted to know why contractors were sourced from abroad and the reason land compensation still remains a major problem in many parts of the country.

Mr. Otachi apologized for appearing before the Committee unprepared and promised that his team will do a comprehensive report and present it before the Committee.

The Members refused to indulge the Commission any further and demanded through the Chair that the team redo their presentation and come back with a detailed report.
