The 16th Annual Kenya National Prayer Breakfast took place today at Safari Park Hotel Nairobi. The Event themed National Reconciliation was co-hosted by the Speaker of the National Assembly the Hon. Justin Muturi, EGH, MP and the Speaker of the Senate, Rt. Hon. Kenneth Lusaka EGH, and MP. The Event was graced by the President of the Republic of Kenya His Excellency, Uhuru Kenyatta CGH, the President of the Republic of Somali, His Excellency, Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed, the Deputy President His Excellency, William Ruto, EGH, and the Chief Justice Hon. David Maraga.

In attendance was the Rt. Hon. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the former Vice President Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, High Commissioners, leaders from the United Kingdoms and the United States of America, the Uganda National Assembly Speaker, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and East African Legislative Assembly Speaker, Ngoga Martin and other dignitaries.

The Meeting organized by Kenya Parliamentary Prayer Fellowship Group and Parliament of Kenya was meant to bring the leadership together with the aiming to pray and of unite the Nation.

Speaking at the function, all leaders emphasized on forgiveness, National reconciliation and peace as values that should be embraced for the sake of moving forward as a Country. Further, leaders urged Kenyans to shun corruption, ethnicity and bad governance and instead focus on achieving the big 4 agenda for the Country.

Speaking at the Event, President Uhuru Kenyatta asked Kenyans to humble themselves to God and seek divine intervention for the ills facing the Country.

“Let us shelve all our differences and forgive one another as we ask God to lead our Country to greatness” He said. He observed that leaders can hold different opinions but still put the Country first in matters development.

The Deputy President and Speakers of both Houses echoed the President’s sentiments as President Kenyatta and former prime minister Raila Odinga shook hands and hugged leading Kenyans by example in forgiving one another and promising to build a new Kenya to achieve great and better healthcare, supply of electricity, provision of clean water and creating employment opportunities

“Many events like this one have taken place here but this one today is different and special” Said Hon. William Ruto. He noted that there was representation of the old and young leaders which demonstrated different talents as a sign of synergy in working together.

Delivering the Keynote address, Lord Dr. Michael Hastings urged Kenyans to pardon one another and seek God’s guidance in all their daily undertakings.

The Rt. Hon. Former Prime Minister called upon leaders to work together and build bridges to serve the electorates better.

“We should never allow Kenyans to suffer because of our political differences, instead we need to unite and work together for prosperity of our Nation Kenya”. He said.

During the event, Insecurity was mentioned as a hindering element in national development especially along the Kenya Somalia boarder. The President of the Republic of Somalia His Excellency, Hassan Sheikh Mohamudtackled the issue taming it a threat caused by a common enemy and hence calling for cooperation in fighting the criminals who kill innocent people on the basis of religion.

The Kenya National Prayer Breakfast is an interdenominational event which takes place once every year on the last Thursday in the month of May. This year religious leaders from most religion affiliations participated in the worship.
