THE (IEBC) AMENDMENT BILL 2022 ASSENTED TO LAW

The Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Moses Masika Wetang’ula alongside his counterpart Senate Speaker, the Rt. Hon. (Sen.) Amason Jeffah Kingi this morning witnessed H.E. President William Samoei Ruto assent to law the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (Amendment) Act 2022.

The Bill sponsored by the National Assembly Majority Leader, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wa proposes expansion of the IEBC selection panel to include; two slots for the Parliamentary Service Commission, the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya to have two slots, one slot for the Public Service Commission and another slot each for the Political Parties Liaison Committee and the Law Society of Kenya.

The composition of a complete IEBC selection panel will pave way for recruitment of new IEBC commissioners to spearhead elections at the electoral body.

Present at the meeting included; the Deputy President, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, the Attorney General, Hon. Justin Muturi, Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Clerk of the Senate/Secretary to PSC, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye and the Clerk National, Mr. Samuel Njoroge.
