The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech will conduct approval hearings of nine nominees for the positions of high commissioner, ambassadors and consuls-general on 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.

National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula has voiced concern over the frequent issuance of conservatory orders by judges against the National Assembly, saying the practice disrupts the legislative process.

Speaking during a joint session between the National Assembly leadership and the Judiciary on the second day of the Third Leadership Retreat, Wetang’ula noted that several matters before Committees and the House have been halted due to such orders.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, has outlined key progress and emerging priorities for the House as lawmakers convened for their Third Leadership Retreat in Mombasa.

Mr. Njoroge said the retreat, themed “𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲”, provides an important opportunity to reflect on past resolutions and chart the way forward in strengthening legislative processes.

The Leader of Minority in the National Assembly, Hon. Junet Mohamed, has called on the House to prioritise the Kenya Roads (Amendment) Bill, 2025, warning that failure to act could cripple the country’s roads programme.

Speaking during the opening of the 3rd National Assembly Leadership Retreat, the Suna East legislator said the Bill that is sponsored by Hon. Peter Kaluma on behalf of the House Legislative Caucus, is critical in addressing constitutional defects identified in the Kenya Roads Board Act.

National Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah has raised concerns that widespread misinformation and disinformation are undermining the progress made by Parliament.

He cautioned that the House’s milestones risk being overshadowed by distorted narratives.

Speaking at the 3rd Leadership Retreat in Mombasa, Ichung’wah detailed the Assembly’s performance in the Fourth Session, noting significant legislative and oversight accomplishments.
