INQUIRY INTO THE MISTREATMENT OF KENYAN MIGRANT WORKERS IN SAUDI ARABIA AND OTHER MIDDLE EAST COUNTRIES

The Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare has noted with great concern the increased reports of mistreatment of domestic workers in the Middle East countries, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where the workers are subjected to human rights violations, many of which have resulted in death. During a meeting with the Committee on 29th September 2021, the Ministry of Foreign A airs reported that ninety (90) domestic workers died in Saudi Arabia between 2019 and 2021. The reported distress calls for the same period are 1,908, with 883 in 2019/20 and 1,025 reported in 2020/21.

PARLIAMENT OF KENYA HOSTS THE FIFTH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR FOR CLERKS-AT-THE-TABLE

The Parliament of Kenya is hosting the Fifth Society of Clerks-at-the-Table (SoCATT) Africa Region Professional Development Seminar, 2021 in Nairobi Kenya. The three-day long Seminar, under the theme “Promoting adaptive programming in Parliamentary settings as a response to emergency and emerging global, regional, and National challenges” was officially opened by the National Assembly Speaker Hon Justin Muturi, who is the Chairperson of the CPA Africa Region Executive Committee.

INAUGURAL COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES (CPwD) CONFERENCE CALLS FOR INCLUSION OF THE CPwD NETWORK AS AN ORGAN OF THE COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION

The Inaugural Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD) Africa Region Conference was held in Nairobi from 14th to 18th October, 2021. The Conference, which was hosted by the Parliament of Kenya in collaboration with the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD) Network, brought together Members of Parliament from Kenya, Sierre Leone, South Africa, Uganda and Tanzania.

First Parliament legislator visits Parliament

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Michael Sialai this morning hosted one of the founding long-serving legislators,  Hon. Willy Kamuren who called on him.

Hon. Willy  Kamuren who served as a Member of Parliament for Baringo North from 1963-1997 had visited the Clerk of the National Assembly for exchange of experience on the currently Parliamentary system.

NHIF Bill forms top priority as House resumes tomorrow

The National Assembly resumes tomorrow for the third part of this Session after a brief hiatus, to a full in-tray, with sittings scheduled to run until December 2nd when the House is expected to break for Christmas. Top priority among others is the proposed legislation on the National Hospital Insurance Fund which is currently awaiting consideration in the Committee of the Whole House.
