The Office of the Minority Leader
The Hon. Junet Mohamed, CBS, MP was elected as the Minority Party Whip in the 13th Parliament in September 2022. He is the Member of Parliament for Suna East Constituency and a ranking Member of Parliament currently serving his third consecutive term.
Political Career and Key Achievements
In 2005, the Hon. Junet Mohamed began his political career when he was nominated as a Councillor and served as Mayor of Migori County Council.
In March 2013, he was elected on an ODM party ticket as a Member of Parliament for Suna East. He was re-elected in 2017 and 2022, respectively. He is the first Kenyan Somali to be elected to a Nyanza region's parliamentary seat.
During his first, second, and third term in Parliament, the Hon. Junet Mohamed served as a member of various Committees. During his first term, he was a member of the Departmental Committee on Energy, Communication and Information, and the Public Accounts Committee. During this second term in the National Assembly, he served as a member of the House Business Committee and the Public Account Committee.
In his third term, the Hon. Junet Mohamed is a Member of the House Business Committee, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and the Public Debt and Privatization Committee.
In his legislative role, Hon. Junet Mohamed is an avid debater and has robustly contributed to debates on various bills, motions, and reports in the House.
Education
The Hon. Junet Mohamed began his studies at Mandera D.E.B. Primary School and later joined Lenana School. He graduated from the University of Nairobi with Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He holds a Diploma in Business Management from the Woodvale Institute.
