SPORTS COMMITTEE TO CHAMPION DIALOGUE BETWEEN WRANGLING FOOTBALL BODIES.

The National Assembly’s Sports and Culture Committee Chaired by Hon. Daniel Wanyama (Mumias East) over the weekend met with members of County Football Associations (CFA) and the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Mr. Jonathan Mueke over the state of football management in the country.

The CFA had sought the Committee's intervention in what the Nairobi County Football Association Secretary General Mr. Wilfred Marori terms as abuse of the Sports Act. Mr. Marori wanted the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) disbanded after accusing its President, Mr. Nick Mwendwa, of refusing to recognize CFA despite being duly registered as a sports body by the Sports Registrar.

The Committee was interested in knowing the role that the Ministry plays in addressing the matter that has long plagued the sport

“You have slept on the job. We expect you to come in with new energy to sort this matter once and for all,” said Hon. Wanyama.

In his response, Mr. Mueke said that the Ministry’s hands were tied as they could not intervene in the matter between the two bodies; FKF and the CFA, saying the case was already before the Sports Dispute Tribunal.

The Committee asked the Ministry of Sports to convene a meeting bringing together the disputing bodies, the Ministry, and the Committee on Sports and Culture with the aim of sorting out all the differences.

“Let us lock ourselves in a room and not leave until the white smoke comes out and we have a lasting solution to all the country’s footballing issues,” stated Hon. Wanyama.
