Senate Mashinani Sittings Kick off in Kitui County
The 2nd Edition of #SenateMashinani – which runs 16 to 20 September– has kicked off Monday, 16 September in the host County of Kitui. Plenary and committee sittings of the Senate shall take place within the precincts of the County Assembly of Kitui, with a number of public hearings scheduled to take place at the Kitui Multi-Purpose Hall in Kitui Town.
The leadership of the Senate and the County Assembly led by Speakers, Rt Hon Kenneth Lusaka and Hon George Ndoto, respectively Monday, held a consultative meeting focused on the week’s programme.
Thereafter, a meeting between all Senators and Members of the Kitui County Assembly took place in the Chambers where Speaker Lusaka presented a replica of the Speaker of the Senate’s seat of authority to Speaker Ndoto, for posterity.
The #SenateMashinani initiative, whose aim is to take the Senate to the people and share best practices between the legislatures, is in line with Article 126(1) of the Constitution of Kenya that provides that “a sitting of either House may be held at any place within Kenya and may commence at any time that the House appoints.”
