The Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2025 has been passed by the National Assembly whichΒ  seeks to amend the Excise Duty Act to remove excise duty on imported fully assembled electric transformers.

It is intended that this amendment will reduce the cost of electricity and enhance power connectivity through additional manufacture and supply of transformers to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company.

The Bill now passed introduces amendments to the Excise Duty Act to remove excise duty on imported fully assembled electric transformers, reducing costs for power sector investors.

If enacted, the Bill is expected to enhance investment in the power sector by lowering costs associated with importing electric transformers, a critical component for electricity distribution.

The Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is set to proceed for assent.
