The Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Kareke Mbiuki on Thursday, August 8, 2024 hosted the Japanese Ambassador, His Excellency Okaniwa Ken at his office at Bunge Tower.

The meeting highlighted the longstanding relationship between Japan and Kenya and explored avenues to strengthen Kenyaโ€™s manufacturing sector and Blue Economy.

H.E ย Okaniwa emphasized the need for Kenya to prioritize the growth and maintenance of its manufacturing sector to prevent it from relocating elsewhere. He proposed that the Government should create a conducive environment for the industry through strategic policies and investments.

Hon. Mbiuki noted that research and education are pivotal for economic development and that Institutions like JKUAT impart valuable skills, yet these are underutilized.

ย "Kenya can learn from Japan's success, which is rooted in technology and extensive training,โ€ he said.

The Ambassador stressed the need for accountability among top civil servants and the elimination of corruption.

"Emphasis should be placed on creating a revenue-generating economy, with research playing a key role in stimulating growth," Amb. Okaniwa said.

He emphasized that Kenya has immense potential. However, realizing this potential requires a concerted effort from both the government and the private sector.

According to Amb. Okaniwa, by addressing corruption, fostering an enabling environment, investing in technology and education and leveraging local resources, Kenya can pave the way for a prosperous future.
