Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has today requested a statement from the Standing Committee on Land, Environment, and Natural Resources regarding the perennial water shortages in Nairobi City County.Β
While requesting the statement on the Floor of the House, the Legislator requested the Committee to state measures taken by the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Limited to resolve the perennial water shortages experienced in Nairobi City County, particularly in Langata, Embakasi, and the Central Business Centre.Β
Senator Sifuna also asked the Lands Committee to spell out the measures the company has taken to combat the emergence of water bowser cartels and criminal gangs in the water sector, that are sabotaging water supply across the city for the purpose of exploiting the residents of Nairobi.Β
Besides, the Nairobi Senator requested the Senator Methu-led Committee to provide an overview of the budgetary and operational plans that the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has developed to facilitate the overhaul or replacement of obsolete water production and supply.Β
In conclusion, Senator Sifuna asked the Committee to explain the technological advancements or innovative approaches that the water company is adopting in order to reduce or eliminate instances of non-revenue water, such as the one sold by water cartels.
