DECENTRALISED FUNDS COMMITTEE INSPECTS LURAMBI NG-CDF OFFICES

The Decentralised Funds Accounts Committee led by the Vice-Chairperson Hon. Gertrude Mbeyu (Kilifi County) conducted an inspection visit of the stalled Lurambi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office block in Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County.

Before visiting the stalled project in Kakamega town, the Committee paid a courtesy call to the Kakamega Governor, Hon. Fernandes Barasa. Governor Barasa commended the legislators for their oversight role and urged them to be steadfast in ensuring that public funds are not misappropriated.

The inspection visit was prompted by concerns raised through the Auditor General’s report which questioned why the building had taken more than 13 years to be completed. Only one out of six proposed floors of the project has been completed.

The Committee was informed that the ground floor was completed after the intervention of the current area MP Hon. Titus Khamala, with the shell of the first and second floors being left unfinished.

Hon. Mburu Kahangara (Lari) raised concerns about the safety and durability of the structure, given the cracks that had already developed on the ground floor which is occupied by the NG-CDF and the current MP's offices.

The Committee heard from the Lurambi NGCDF committee as well as area residents who expressed their disappointment at the failure of the project and the misuse of public funds.
