Five Cabinet Secretaries are slated to appear before the Senate this Wednesday to respond to questions from Senators.

Cabinet Secretaries for Roads and Transport, Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage,Education,Lands ,Public Works, Housing and Urban Development and Interior and National Administration will appear before Senate pursuant Standing Orders 51A (5) at 9.30am.

Roads CS,Hon Onesimus Murkomen is expected to respond to queries from Tana River Senator, Danson Mungatana who wants to know the distance in kilometres of tarmac roads that the Government has constructed in Kenya since independence.

The Senator also wants the CS to provide a list of all roads in Tana River county that have been upgraded to bitumen standard.

The CS is also tasked to explain why Tana River county has been marginalised in the National Governments development plans and what steps is being taken to rectify the situation.

Senator Veronica Maina wants the CS Tourism, Hon.Penina Malonza to state the number of cruise ships that have docked since January 2022 and also state the number of those scheduled to dock by June 2023.

Further,The CS is expected to shed light on the schedule of cruise ships that were scheduled to dock in Kenya between January 2022 and June 2023 but cancelled their voyage or changed their destination from Kenya, stating the reasons for the cancellation or changeΒ 

The Legislator also wants the CS to state measures the Ministry has taken to market Kenya as a cruise tourist destination.

Senator Maina further wants CS Education, Hon.Ezekiel Machogu to explain the rationale for and the impact of the detachment of Bandari college from the Kenya Airports Authority.

The CS is also slated to provide the number of seafarers trained by Bandari college and deployed to the local and International markets.

The CS is also expected to provide information as to the sustainability and capacity of Bandari college to undertake the governments commitment to train 250 seafarers annually.

Tharaka Nithi Senator,Mwenda Gataya Mo Fire wants Lands CS Zacharia Njeri to explain the cause of delay in demarcation, adjudication and issuing of titles to residents of Ntoroni,Thiiti and Turima Division particularly parts of Ruung'u,Kibunga,Tombura,Mugwi,Tunya,Kathura and Kiragu areas in Tharaka Nithi County .

The Senator also wants to know measures taken to expedite demarcation and titling of land in the affected areas.

The Senator also wants Land CS to apprise him on plans put in place to facilitate residents of Machabeni-sub location in Tharaka Nithi County,who were evicted from their lands in the 1996-1997 tribal clashes to safely return to their homes .

Laikipia Senator John Kinyua is seeking answers from CS Interior, Prof Kithure Kindiki on the state of security in Laikipia County and wider North Rift Region and criteria used in the identification of areas to conduct the ongoing security operation.

He further wants the CS to explain measures put in place to restore peace in the region and also provide information on the recruitment, deployment and renumeration of National Police Reservists in the region.

The CS is also expected to give a status of recovery of stolen livestock and arraignment of apprehended bandits in court since November 2022 and whether those affected by banditry will be compensated.

The five Cabinet Secretaries will also be required to respond to any supplementary questions from the rest of the lawmakers.
