The Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania, Hon. Job Ndugai, has expressed his sympathies to the families of the victims of the Riverside attack that saw five terrorists blast their way into the 14 Riverside Drive, early this week.

Speaking when he hosted the Speaker of the National Assembly who had paid him a courtesy call at the Parliament Office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Speaker Ndugai said that Tanzania stood alongside other friends of Kenya in condemning the Tuesday attack, which terror group Al shabaab has claimed responsibility for. " Mr. Speaker, we share with you our esteemed neighbours the pain caused by this heinous act and wish to express our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish those who were injured a quick recovery. We stand in solidarity with you during this moment", he said.

Speaker Muturi on his part informed him that Kenya's security agencies had managed the situation quite exemplary, noting that though a total of 21 lives had been lost in the ordeal, security officers had saved well over 700 lives. Speaker Muturi further stated that he was particularly impressed by the Director of Criminal Investigation, George Kinoti’s response to the attack, having arrived at the venue in a record 8 minutes and leading the rescue operation from the front.

Yesterday, the President of the Republic of Tanzania, Dr. John Joseph Magufuli condoled with President Uhuru Kenyatta, and pledged his support and that of the People of Tanzania during this mourning period.

Speaker Muturi is in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania this week, attending a series of meetings under the auspices of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Africa Region, for the development of the association’s 2019 work plan. He currently chairs the Executive Committee of the association, which is drawn from member Parliaments across the continent.
