Three Cabinet Secretaries will appear before the Senate this Wednesday to answer questions from Senators.

The Cabinet Secretaries for Interior and National Administration Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Zachariah Njeru and Salim Mvurya of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs will appear before Senate pursuant to Standing Order 51A (5).

The three are scheduled to respond to questions from the Legislators on Wednesday 26, April 2023 beginning at 9:30am.

Prof. Kindiki will be responding to among others, the questions from Samburu County Senator Dr. Lelegwe Ltumbesi on the state of security in Samburu West Constituency in light of the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to support the ongoing security operation and measures that the Government has put in place to enhance security in Samburu County.

Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru will respond to the question by Isiolo County Senator Fatuma Dullo on the reasons for the disparity in compensation between residents of Nuno Modogashe and Isiolo affected by the Africa Gateway Project.

The Cabinet Secretary will be required to in his response provide the criteria used in determining the compensation figures besides giving measures put in place by the Government to ensure equitable compensation to the affected residents in both areas.

Among the questions that the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya will be responding to are the question by Sen. Veronica Maina on the state of infrastructure put in place to facilitate the exploration of ocean renewable energy and the initiatives put in place by the Ministry to enhance the exploration of offshore gas and oil.

CS Mvurya will also be responding to the question by Sen. Fatuma Dullo on the rationale for the imposition of the existing moratorium on the issuance of mineral mining rights by the Government.

Further, the Cabinet Secretary will respond to questions from Sen. Veronica Maina on the extent of investment in terms of infrastructure by government for the country to explore and benefit from aquatic products, marine, aquaculture, and blue biotechnology and also provide the number of Kenyan-owned fish vessels registered to operate in the Exclusive Economic Zone stating the measures put in place to enhance the participation of and investment by local fishermen in the Marine Exclusive Economic Zone.

The 3 Cabinet Secretaries will also be required to respond to any supplementary questions from the rest of the lawmakers.
