PETITIONS COMMITTEE CONSIDERS THE DE-GAZZETTMENT OF HOLA IRRIGATION SCHEME
The National Assembly Select Committee on Public Petitions chaired by Hon. Nimrod Mbati (Kitui East) has embarked on a fact-finding mission to Tana River in regard to a petition presented by Hon. Said Buya (Galole) on behalf of Tana River residents.
The Committee met with the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Management, County Government officials, Members of the County Assembly (MCA’s), and representatives of the farmers.
TRADE COMMITTEE QUESTIONS KENYA NATIONAL CORPORATION ON PROCUREMENT PROCESSES
The Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives chaired by Hon. James Gakuya met with official of Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC) led by the Managing Director Ms. Pamela Mutua. The Committee questioned Ms. Mutua on the Corporation's procurement processes.
BUDGET COMMITTEE ENGAGES CS TREASURY ON BUDGET ESTIMATES
The Budget and Appropriations Committee chaired by Hon. Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) met with the National Treasury & Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u who appeared before the Committee to shed light on concerns in regard to the Financial Year 2023/24 Budget Estimates.
Members tasked the CS to explain the Government's plans to meet the debt obligations in FY 2023/24 including the repayment of the Eurobond among other debt redemptions measures, amid the country’s limited access to foreign financing.
PETITIONS COMMITTEE CALLS ON NEMA TO STOP POLLUTION of RIVER ATHI
The National Assembly’s Public Petition Committee chaired by Hon. Nimrod Mbai (Mwala) conducted a fact-finding mission across Machakos County in regard to a petition by Mwala residents on the pollution of River Athi.
Members of the Committee together with officials from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company (MAVWASCO), Tana Athi Rivers and Development Authority, and Export and Processing Zones Authority (EPZA), raised concerns about the plight of Kenyans who consume water from the river polluted with raw effluent.
PUBLIC DEBT COMMITTEE BRIEFED ON CO𝗡SOLIDATED FUND SERVICES EXPENDITURE FOR THE 2023/2024 FINANCIAL YEAR
The Public Debt and Privatization Committee chaired by Hon. Abdi Shurie (Balambala) has been briefed by the Parliamentary Budget Office on the Consolidated Fund Services (CFS) Expenditure for Financial Year 2023/24.
According to a report by PBO, the overall budget for the Financial Year 2023/24 is projected to reach Kshs. 3.599 trillion or 22.1 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This is made up of Kshs2.48 trillion in recurrent expenditure and Kshs 689.1 billion in development expenditure.
