The Senate must address its financial constraints to enhance its ability to fulfill its mandate effectively, Senate Minority Leader and Kilifi County Senator Stewart Madzayo has emphasized.

Speaking during the Senate midterm retreat in Naivasha, Senator Madzayo raised concerns over the inadequate funding that has hampered the Senate’s operations. He noted that in some cases, Senators have been forced to cover their expenses while on official duties which undermines their ability to serve efficiently.

Despite these financial hurdles, he acknowledged that the Senate has made significant progress in executing its responsibilities, resulting in positive impacts at the county level. He urged Senators to remain committed to addressing issues that directly affect ordinary citizens.

“It is critical that we consistently address issues that are related to citizens. We should do so by putting aside our political differences and just focus on noble issues,” stated Sen. Madzayo.

He reminded his colleagues that Kenyans have high expectations of the Senate as an institution tasked with ensuring the success of devolution. He stressed the need for Senators to remain dedicated to their roles to make the dream of full devolution a reality.
