Clerk of the Senate and Secretary of the Parliamentary Service Commission, Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye has reassured Senators of the unwavering commitment of the Senate’s administrative arm to support them in executing their mandate effectively.

Speaking during the official opening of the Senate Midterm Retreat in Naivasha, Nakuru County, Mr. Nyegenye highlighted the dedication of Senate staff in ensuring seamless operations as the Fourth Session begins on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

β€œAs the administrative arm, we are privileged and motivated to continue to offer support to Senators to discharge their constitutional mandate effectively,” stated Mr. Nyegenye.

He took the opportunity to outline key milestones achieved during the Third Session including the relocation of Senators and committee operations to Bunge Tower and the operationalization of the Senate Oversight Function. He noted that County Managers had undergone training to enhance the effectiveness of the function.

Additionally, Mr. Nyegenye acknowledged the Senate’s relentless advocacy in pushing for increased allocations of equitable national revenue to counties.

Highlighting the significance of the midterm retreat, he emphasized its role in allowing Senators and staff to reflect on past sessions and plan for the upcoming one.

β€œThe purpose of this engagement is primarily to make an assessment, evaluate the performance and achievements of the Senate in the first three sessions since the commencement of the Thirteenth Parliament. It is worthwhile to take stock of the activities that have been realized so far, the challenges encountered and the opportunities that lie ahead for improvement in the coming session,” he explained.

Mr. Nyegenye underscored that the Fourth Session presents a crucial opportunity for the Senate to build on its past momentum and solidify its legacy through impactful legislative and oversight work.
