The Joint Planning Committee for the 14th Edition of the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games held a meeting ahead of the kick-off of the games.
During the meeting, the Co-Chairperson Bunge Sports Club, Hon. Vincent Kawaya (Mwala) assured representatives of all the member states present that Kenya is ready to host the games that begin on Saturday, December 7, 2024.ย ย
Giving a brief on the preparatory stages of the Games and pre-tournament conference, Hon. Kawaya said Kenya has addressed all the critical areas of attention to the hosting of the Games.
"We have improved on what you assessed during the 2nd Joint Planning Committee in September this year. We are therefore better and more than ready," he said.
In addition, he pointed out that Kenya had secured a number of hotels and apartments with negotiated rates, and delegations from Member States have already made their reservations.
The competition and training of various sports disciplines shall be held at Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Mbaraki Stadium, Aga khan Academy, Nyali Golf and Country Course, Shanzu Stadium, Uwanja wa Mbuzi/ Hassan Joho Stadium, Sheikh Zayed Academy, ASK showground (Kongowea) and KPA Makupa Members Club.
Hon. Kawaya also confirmed that two federations per discipline along with the referees and umpires will be facilitated to attend the games from 6th - 18th December 2024.
On the security of the participants during the tournament, he said arrangements have been made to ensure adequate security.
"Arrangements have been made for enhanced security during the tournament in all venues and hotels. The delegations shall be escorted by police from their point of entry into Mombasa to hotels with a chase car for their daily operations while the VVIP security shall be accorded to all visiting Speakers," Hon. Kawaya said.
In conclusion, he thanked the Speakers for both Houses of Parliament who are the Co-Patrons of the Bunge Sports Club for the support accorded, the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) for the financial support to enable hosting of EAC-IPG, Governor of Mombasa County for co-sponsoring key components of the event, KPA and the national Government for ensuring a running track and football pitch of International standards to footballers and athletes.
The 12-day tournament is set to be officially opened by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto on Saturday, December 7, 2024
