Nominated MP, Hon. Irene Mayaka is urging the Ministry of Health to disclose the number and locations of facilities in the country specialized in treating endometriosis.
While seeking a Statement from the Departmental Committee of Health regarding the lack of specialized facilities for endometriosis treatment, Hon. Mayaka emphasized the severity of the condition.
Although endometriosis is not typically fatal, it can lead to life-threatening complications in rare cases, she said.
βThe Committee should outline the measures put in place by the Ministry of Health to facilitate public hospitals with specialized training and treatment for endometriosis, thereby providing better healthcare for women in the country,β Hon. Mayaka said.
In addition, she seeks to know specific actions being taken by the Ministry of Health to tackle the challenges posed by endometriosis and create public awareness about this treatment.
This call to action comes shortly after the death of popular radio Ms. Mary Njambi Koikai, better known as Jahmby Koikai.
Ms. Koikai dedicated much of her life to raising awareness about the debilitating condition of endometriosis, which ultimately led to her death.
Β βThe late Ms. Koikai was an endometriosis warrior whose condition worsened over the years, culminating in a collapsed lung due to thoracic endometriosis, which required specialized surgery,β said Hon. Mayaka.
Hon. Mayaka extended her condolences to the family, friends, and all who grieve the loss of Ms. Koikai.
