ย The National Assembly has passed a procedural Motion that seeks to expedite the publication period of the Division of Revenue Bill, 2024. The Bill, critical for unlocking county and National Government funding, will now be published within four days instead of the standard seven days.ย
In the Tuesday afternoon session presided over by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gladys Boss (Uasin Gishu), Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Owen Baya (Kilifi North) called upon Members to pass the Motion.
ย "This is a very important Bill that unlocks funds at the National and county level. We need to unlock money going to counties so they can begin their budget-making process," said Hon. Baya.
ย The Division of Revenue Bill serves as the mechanism for sharing revenue raised by the National Government between the National and county governments as provided for under Article 203(1), including funding national interests, debt payments, national government expenditure, development needs of counties, and financing county functions.
