The Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations held a meeting this Thursday where members deliberated on the 2024 Budget Policy Statement (BPS), Medium Term Debt Management Strategy (MTDMS) and the Medium Term Revenue Strategy (MTRS).

During the meeting, committee members were taken through the Budget Policy Statement, Medium Term Debt Management Strategy and the Medium Term Revenue Strategy by the Parliamentary Budget Office.

The Budget Policy Statement states the criteria that will be used to allocate available public resources between the National and County Governments. It also apportions resources for various government programmes and projects.

The Medium Term Debt Management Strategy on the other hand provides information including the total stock of debt, strategy on the debt management and details regarding sustainability of the amount of debt whereas Medium Term Revenue Strategy details a framework for mobilization of revenues to finance government programmes and projects.

Members present were Sen. William Cheptumo (Chairperson), Sen. Karen Nyamu (Vice Chairperson), Joseph Githuku, Sen. George Mbugua, Sen. Prof. Tom Ojienda SC, Sen. Seki Lenku and Sen. Fatuma Dullo.
