The National Assembly this afternoon passed two Procedural Motionsย both aimed at extending the review periods for the Budget Policy Statement and the Debt Management Strategy of 2024.
The Motions,ย moved by Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, Chairperson of the Budgetย and Appropriations Committee, and Hon. Abdi Shurie, Chairperson of the Public Debt & Privatization Committee, are designed to afford Kenyan citizens additional time to give their views onย the nationโs budget.
Presently, Departmental Committees are in the process of meeting with relevant Ministries, State Departments, and Agencies for review purposes.
Typically, the House is granted a 14-day window to review the Budget Policy Statement (PBS). However, the Motions now extend these timelines. The Chairperson of the Public Debt and Privatization Committee has proposed an extension of 10 days from 25thย February 2024 for the consideration of the 2024 Debt Management Strategy, notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order 232A(4).
Similarly, Hon. Ndindi, Chairperson of the Budget & Appropriations Committee has proposed an extension of sevenย days from 29th February 2024 for the consideration of the 2024 Budget Policy Statement, notwithstanding the provisions of Standing Order 232(7).
Members of the Public are encouraged to make submissions to the Budget Policy Statement and the Debt Management Strategy of 2024 on or before Monday 26th February 2024
