The Senate has resumed its sittings this Tuesday 13, February 2024 after a long recess.

During today`s sitting members deliberated and endorsed a list of the Senators who will serve on the Senate House Committee that is tasked with the mandate of planning all House Businesses in the Third Session.

The Lawmakers contributed to the motion of approval that was moved by the Senate Majority Leader and Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.

Members applauded the committee appealing to members to stay focused on serving Kenyans by laying down appropriate plans to be executed by the House for the benefit of the whole Nation.

In addition, they called on members serving on the committee to prioritize Businesses that will contribute immensely on implementation of Devolution.Β Β

The approval of the Senate Committee was in line with the Standing Orders 190 and 199 (3) that requires the House to put in place a committee to plan and oversee all House Businesses.

The Legislators who have been approved to serve on the Committee are Mandera County Senator Ali Roba, Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna, Nominated Senator Veronica Maina, Bomet County Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei and Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda.

Others are the Machakos County Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama and Mombasa County Senator Mwinyihaji Faki.

According to the Standing Order 190 (1), the Speaker shall be the Chairperson of the Committee with Senate Majority Leader, Minority Leader, Senate Majority and Minority Leaders forming part of the committee members.

The lawmakers used the Tuesday afternoon sitting to eulogize the World Marathon Champion Kelvin Kiptum who passed on through a tragic road accident on Sunday together with his coach.

Members expressed their heartfelt messages of condolence to the family of the deceased as well as that of his coach back in Rwanda.
