The National Assembly Budget & Appropriations Committee chaired by Hon. Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) has concluded a week-long engagement withΒ Members who made proposals to amend various existings laws.Β Β
Amongst theΒ Bills considered by the Committee include;Β Legal Education (Amendment) Bill, 2023 by Hon. Babu Owino (Embakasi East), the Horticultural Crops Bill, 2023 by Hon. Sabina Chege (Nominated), and the National Health Insurance (Amendment) Bill, 2023 by Hon. Faith Gitau (Nyandarua).Β
The Legal Education (Amendment) Bill seeks to eliminate rigidity within existing legislation. This will enable Bachelor of Law graduatesΒ who did not attain a minimum grade ofΒ B plain in English or Kiswahili in the KenyaΒ Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to gain admission to the Kenya School of Law for the advocates' training program.Β
In addition, the Committee heard from Hon. Chege whose Bill seeks to transform the Horticulture Crops Directorate into the Horticultural Crops Authority.
The amendment proposed by Hon. Gitau on the National Health Insurance Fund Act says the Fund should cover assistive devices for contributors.
