The Senate Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi, EGH, has convened a Special Senate sitting on Tuesday.

Through the Gazette Notice dated August 25, 2023, Speaker Kingi appointed Tuesday August 29, 2023 as a day for a special sitting of the Senate.

Business to be transacted by the House during the Special sitting will among others include tabling of the message from President William Ruto on the appointment of Mr. Andrew Mukite Musangi as the Chairperson of the Board of the Central Bank of Kenya, a resolution by the National Assembly establishing the National Dialogue Committee and a message from the National Assembly on the passage by the National Assembly of the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (National Assembly Bills, No.42 of 2023).

The lawmakers will consider the National Assembly of the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (National Assembly Bills, No.42 of 2023) and the Public Finance Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023, (National Assembly Bills, No. 16 of 2023).

Furthermore, the legislators will consider a Motion on the establishment of the National Dialogue Committee.

The National Dialogue Committee was approved by the National Assembly last week and transmitted to the Senate for its consideration.

The approval by Parliament is aimed at giving the Committee a legal backing besides putting in place the legal procedures that will be followed by during the bipartisan talks

The Committee will be required to report back to Kenya Kwanza and Azimio Coalitions` leadership within 60 days on the progress and ultimately submit its final report to Parliament for consideration.

Speaker Kingi has convened the Special sitting pursuant to the Standing Order 33 (1) of the Senate Standing Orders on the request by the Senate Majority Leader with support of the requisite number of Senators.
