The National Assembly has hosted a delegation from the Mozambican Parliamentary Committee on Defence, Security and Public Order.
The Delegation, which is on a benchmarking mission in the country, held separate meetings with the National Assembly Liaison Committee led by Hon. Martha Wangare (Gilgil), as well as Members of the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations chaired by Hon. Nelson Koech (Belgut), and that of Administration and Internal Security, led by Vice-Chair Hon. Col. (Rtd) Dido Rasso (Saku).
During the separate meetings, Members and the visiting Delegation discussed opportunities that both countries can harness through Parliamentary diplomacy.
At the Meeting with the Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations, Hon. Koech explained the strategic role of the National Assembly in oversight of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) activities to safeguard the country's territorial integrity, especially in light of regional terror threats.
"We share several aspects in terms of opportunities and challenges on the security and defence fronts and we can through such engagements brainstorm on tackling such regional and global threats as terrorism," said Hon. Koech.
During the delegation's meeting with the Committee on Administration and InternalΒ Security, Hon. Rasso outlined opportunities available for both nations from their joint Memberships to regional and international Parliamentary forums such as the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), the African, Caribbean, and PacificΒ β European Union (ACP-EU), Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the International Parliamentary Union (IPU).Β
"Participation in these forums provides opportunities for Parliamentarians from both countries to interact, engage in discussions, and collaborate on matters of mutual interest, including regional issues and legislative matters," said Hon. Rasso.
